First Boil of 2013
We had our first boil of the 2013 season on Thursday (2/28). Not a huge run, about 2300 gallons of sap. It was the first time using the new Piggy Back pan. The pan sits on top of the flue pan and uses the steam to preheat the incoming sap. Once the sap reaches about 200 degrees F we turn on a blower that makes the sap start to bubble releasing steam. Basically it is a way to increase the production capacity of our evaporator with out any increase in fuel costs.
