First off just saying the word Switchel is extremely satisfying. What is switchel you ask? Also known as haymakers punch, switchel is a combination of ginger, maple syrup and apple cider vinegar mixed with water. This spunky concoction will replenish your potassium and electrolytes after a strenuous work out and maple syrup will give your blood sugar levels a lift. Apple cider vinegar also works as a detox for the liver and lymphatic system. The origins of switchel are debated, some claim the Romans invented the drink using honey as the sweetener others say its first documented use was in Europe in the 17th century. No matter where it came from, its elegant simplicity is a marvel. So pour your high priced energy drinks down the drain, skip the soda aisle at the supermarket and mix up a batch. Our recipe uses Ginger Root Infused pure maple syrup but fresh ginger and traditional pure maple syrup will work as well.
